Wine Educator / Tasting Room Associate

About 3 Steves Winery

3 Steves Winery is a small, family-owned winery in Livermore Valley dedicated to producing elegant, world-class wines with an approachable, welcoming spirit. Our tasting room is an extension of that philosophy. We believe great hospitality should feel personal, knowledgeable, and relaxed—not stuffy or pretentious. We want guests to leave having discovered something new, enjoyed themselves, and felt genuinely welcomed into our winery. We are looking for a Wine Educator / Tasting Room Associate to join our hospitality team and help create that experience for every guest who walks through our doors.

The Role:

  • The Wine Educator / Tasting Room Associate is a guest-facing position responsible for leading wine tastings, educating guests about our wines and winery, creating memorable hospitality experiences, and helping drive direct-to-consumer wine sales.
  • You will independently lead tastings while also working closely with the rest of the tasting room team. You should be comfortable talking about wine with both knowledgeable enthusiasts and guests who are completely new to wine.
  • Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who genuinely loves wine, enjoys talking with people, and wants to keep learning. This is a part-time position with a primary need for weekend availability, along with occasional evening events and private functions.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead engaging, personalized wine tastings for walk-in guests, reservations, wine club members, and groups.
  • Educate guests about our wines, vineyards, winemaking philosophy, and the Livermore Valley.
  • Create a warm, elevated, and approachable hospitality experience from the moment guests arrive through the end of their visit.
  • Build genuine relationships with guests and learn to recognize their preferences and interests.
  • Actively sell wine and confidently recommend wines across our portfolio, including premium and higher-priced offerings.
  • Introduce guests to our wine club
  • Process wine and merchandise sales using our POS and handle cash transactions when applicable.
  • Understand and utilize reservations and guest information via Tock.
  • Assist guests and members with questions about their accounts and experiences.
  • Work collaboratively with the tasting room manager, leads, and fellow associates to keep service running smoothly.
  • Set up, maintain, and break down a clean, organized, and polished tasting room throughout the day.
  • Restock wine, glassware, wine cases, merchandise, and other tasting room supplies.
  • Wash and organize glassware and maintain clean tables and service areas.
  • Continue developing wine knowledge through ongoing staff and winemaker-led education.
  • Represent 3 Steves Winery professionally and authentically at all times.

What we’re looking for:

  • Passionate about wine and genuinely interested in learning more.
  • Warm, personable, and naturally comfortable talking with people.
  • An excellent communicator who can make wine approachable without talking down to guests.
  • Comfortable leading a tasting and speaking confidently in front of individuals and groups.
  • Comfortable selling wine and asking for the sale without being aggressive or pushy.
  • Curious and eager to develop a deeper understanding of wine, vineyards, and winemaking.
  • A team player who is willing to jump in wherever needed to support the guest experience.
  • Dependable, professional, and able to work independently while remaining part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented and committed to maintaining a clean, organized, polished environment.
  • Comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor tasting environments, weather permitting.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Prior hospitality, restaurant, tasting room, or customer-service experience is preferred.
  • Wine education or previous winery experience is highly encouraged but not required.
  • A genuine passion for wine and a willingness to continually learn are essential.
